چکیده

Active galaxies are often associated with starbursts, which are possible sources of fuelling for the nuclear black holes. By means of optical (3500 − 7500 Å) spectroscopic and narrow-band photometric data (Hα + [NII]λ6548,6583 and [OIII]λ5007) it is possible to detect starburst features in active nuclei and to study the correlation with Seyfert type and the surrounding environment. Here we present evidences of young stellar populations (HI high order Balmer lines) and extended Hα emission (indicative of HII regions) in 6 nearby Seyfert galaxies (z < 0.02). These very preliminary results seem to suggest that the nuclear starburst presence does not depend on the Seyfert type, favouring the hypothesis of the AGN Unified Model. By estimating the present SFR (< 10 years) and recent SFR (< 10 years) we observe that these objects have experienced most of star formation episodes in past epochs. This supports the hypothesis of a starburstAGN connection, favouring an evolutionary scenario in which the AGN survives to the starburst.

The Role of Nuclear Starbursts in Luminous Infrared Seyfert 2 Galaxies

We present HST (WFPC2 and FOC) images and UV GHRS spectra plus ground-based optical spectra of four Luminous Infrared Galaxies (LIRGs) that have Seyfert 2 nuclei (Mrk 477, NGC 7130, NGC 5135 and IC 3639). The data provide direct evidence of the existence of a central nuclear starburst that dominates the UV and optical light and are dusty and compact. The bolometric luminosity (∼ 1010 L⊙) of the...

Seyfert Galaxies with Circumnuclear/nuclear Starbursts

In this paper, we present our preliminary results on Seyfert galaxies with circumnuclear/nuclear starburst(SB) activity. We have searched the recent available literature and found 76 active galaxies with clear evidence of nuclear SB activity, among which 16 are Seyfert 1s, 51 Seyfert 2s, and 9 LINERs. After studying the 51 Seyfert 2s, we find that those Seyfert 2s with hidden Seyfert 1 nuclei, ...

The Starburst-agn Connection: Integral Field Spectroscopy of Merging and Seyfert 2 Galaxies

Infrared bright galactic nuclei may be powered by accretion of matter onto a black hole, a burst of new star formation, or both of these processes. To gain insight into such processes we have used integral field spectroscopy to observe a sample of galaxies with identified AGN or nuclear starbursts. We confirm the presence of a starburst in the nuclear regions of the galaxies IC 3639, MRK 477, N...

Prevalence of compact nuclear starbursts in nearby Seyfert galaxies

We present an imaging survey of the CO(1–0), HCN(1–0), and HCO(1–0) lines in the nearby Seyfert galaxies using the Nobeyama Millimeter Array and RAINBOW Interferometer. Some of the observed Seyfert galaxies including NGC 1068, NGC 1097, NGC 5033, and NGC 5194 exhibit strong HCN(1–0) emission on a few 100 pc scales. The observed HCN(1–0)/CO(1–0) and HCN(1–0)/HCO(1–0) line ratios in the Seyfert n...

Galaxy Interaction and Starburst-seyfert Connection

Galaxy interactions are studied in terms of the starburst-Seyfert connection. The starburst requires a high rate of gas supply. Since the efficiency for supplying the gas is high in a galaxy interaction, although the companion is not necessarily discernible, Seyfert galaxies with circumnuclear starbursts are expected to be interacting. Since the large amounts of circumnuclear gas and dust obscu...
